Last days in AU

Its hard to believe but today is my last day of work here in Auburn. I am going to stay on with the Truman Pierce Institute doing contract work but it will be different not being in the office everyday with my colleagues.



Leaving Auburn is even harder for Adam. He has been here for over 4 1/2 years and has made so many great friends and connections. He has invested a lot of his time, his sweat, his heart and himself in Auburn! In just the six months I have lived here I know why Adam has loved living here so much. We have been blessed in these last few days by our church family, friends and colleagues with warm wishes, free meals and lots of prayers of support and great hugs to carry us to Starkville!

Adam do it....

2 posts in one day... I know.. I know... a little much for me... but I wanted to share of the break we took from packing on Saturday to go to my brothers and visit with Jackson

I know if you read my sister-n-law's blog you realize how incredibly smart this 2 1/2 year old is but everytime Adam and I are around him we are just more and more amazed at how absolutely brilliant this little fella is. We are in love with him. He has such an imagination and an amazing vocabulary. Have we mentioned that Adam taught him where his patella. Find us another two year old who knows that!
Well Jackson LOVES his uncle Adam and this trip wanted Adam to do EVERYTHING for him. Adam do it he would say....



Well Jackson had a bit of a snotty nose so I said, "Jackson let Mimi get your nose" Jackson said, " NO, Adam get my boogie" Sorry babe. You were pretty much gonna have to do everything.

We need more boxes

Well the time has come to pack up our lives here in Auburn and head to Starkville. I can't believe that six months have come and gone. Life happens quick. So this is what our lives look like right now.


Our goal is to have EVERYTHING packed by Friday when we are heading to a wedding in Jackson and then on to Hattiesburg for Christmas. WE will be heading back on the 28th ,after a detour in Birmingham, to meet the movers on the 29th and then Starkvegas here we come.

I realized before we started packing that so few people have actually been to our home in Auburn so I captured a few pictures before hurricane packing hit.

We're not talking Freeze "Tag"

We were tagged by the lovely Samantha to talk about 5 interesting things about ourselves. I am saying WE because if you know me, listing interesting things about myself ranks up there with having a root canal so I am dragging my husband in on this post to make it more complete. As I started compiling this list it came to be a list of interesting facts about mine and Adam's relationship.

1. Adam and I were set up by his sweet sisters Lisa and Lori. Lori wrote the paper in my class about Adam being a "Servant Leader" which peaked my interest and Lisa had the epiphany that she needed to set up "Miss" Amy with her brother so she did all the leg work that led to the magic happening! Thanks sister!

2. What I like to label as our first date (Adam might disagree) was attended by the sisters, Lisa & Lori, Patrick (Lisa's fiancee) and my now mother-n-law. Yep. We do it right. They joined Adam and I after a brief first meeting for a fine cuisine at a campus dining location known as Elam Arms. Only the best. Needless to say great memories were made and I still tease my husband about this "first date". This is why he doesn't call this our first date but labels it our first meeting. Can you blame him?

3. Adam and I were in college down the street from each other and didn't ever meet. He was at The University of Southern Mississippi and I was at William Carey College (now William Carey University). Adam's uncle Steve is the basketball coach at William Carey University and we know that Adam came to basketball games during my time there but still we never met!

4. Almost every Christmas growing up our family would pack up the van and head south down I-59 from Gadsden to Hattiesburg while Adam's family would pack up their van and head north up I-59 from Hattiesburg to Birmingham for Christmas. We most likely passed each other every year and didn't know it!!!

5. In the past six months- Adam and I have: Got married, I moved to Auburn, started a new job, Adam wrote a dissertation and became Dr. Knight, I had surgery, and we are moving to Starkville to start new jobs! WOW life happens! and I love him more everyday. Its great to be Mrs. Knight!!

Christmas Picture Fun

While we were home over Thanksgiving we got to experience Christmas picture taking fun with both sides of the family. What other time of the year do you coordinate outfits and squeeze together in front of an inanimate object for a picture. Well I must say we got lots of laughs out of both sessions. I really don't know which was more difficult, wrangling a 2 year old in the picture or wrangling a bunch of adults (at the Knight household). I thought I would share some of the, should I call them, blooper pics. These are two of my favorite "silly" pictures because they show what the shoots were really like. Adam and his dad acting silly and Jackson waiting Uncle Ben to throw him HIGH!!

Allow me to introduce...Dr. Adam Knight

Its official....the countless hours of hard work have payed off. I was able to go to Adam's dissertation defense yesterday and he did a wonderful job. After about a 45 minute presentation (which was excellent and I am beginning to understand a little of what he is talking about) and questions from the audience (professors, students, the audience was dismissed and Adam met with his committee for about another 30-45 minutes fielding questions. I went and waiting in the lab with a student (Matt)that works with Adam and had a nice chat and then in walks Adam's major professor to say "Allow me to introduce, Dr. Adam Knight" He was all smiles!! I am so proud for him!!! He has earned it! I really have never known anyone to work has hard and diligently has my husband does!

Almost There!!

It has been an exciting journey but he is almost there!! My wonderful husband defends his dissertation TOMORROW, Wednesday, December 3rd. The title of his dissertation is "EFFECTS OF INVERSION PERTURBATION AFTER DROP LANDING ON THE LATENCY OF THE ANKLE MUSCULATURE" Did you get that? Yeah that's 164 pages of a lot of really important stuff that I can't really understand but he does. Better him than me! We both have our strong suits. He has worked countless hours, worked on thousand on spreadsheets, typed who knows how many words and tomorrow will be Dr. Adam Knight!!! Keep him in your prayers tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. I will keep you posted.

Who plans for pain?

I think, I hope, I see the light at the end of the tunnel in recovering from last weeks surgery. It really snuck up on us. Adam and I had planned out quite nicely the next few weeks: head to Birmingham, go to Jets game, head to Starkville to find somewhere to live, on to Hattiesburg to celebrate the holidays. Insert abdominal pain, insert unexpected surgery, insert change of plans. But who plans for pain. None of us do. But fortunately whether our pain comes physically as mine did, whether its a pain of the heart or of your spirit I was reminded again this past week that the Father is the Great Physician and meets us in our greatest hour of pain. There is purpose in our pain.

Amy's Recovery

As many of you know, Amy underwent surgery this past Wednesday. The doctor found adhesions in her lower left abdomen and was able to remove them laproscopically. The next step is preventing them from recurring again. Amy is doing well and is on the road to recovery. We really appreciate the support and love we have be given by our family and friends during this past week. If all goes well with recovery, we hope to go home for Thanksgiving. Amy and I have truly grown closer to each other during this entire process. She is the best wife in the whole world!!

Zipping by.....

Time is zipping by here in Auburn. Does it feel that way to you? I remember when I was younger being told that time goes by faster the older you get. How is that possible I wondered? I still wonder how it is possible as I watch the days slip right past us! But they do seem to go by faster and faster.

We are winding down our time here in Auburn. And it is hard to believe I have already been here for 5 months. As I continue to schedule trainings and meetings for work, I am reminded that we won't be here much longer. The next stop our journey will take us back to Mississippi. And it will be here before we know it. I pray that in the last 6 weeks or so that we take advantage of our last days here in Auburn and look with great excitement for what is ahead for us in Starkvegas! We know that Lord is with us and is going before us! What an exciting thing to know! May you be reminded of that in this moment too! What a mighty God we serve!!

You have got to be kidding me!

First let me say I have the BEST husband in the WORLD!!! But I am sure you all guessed that by now. He delighted my heart with that surprise blog post!!! He really is my "Knight" Get it!!
He is in the home stretch on the dissertation. He started writing chapter 5. The LAST chapter!! Keep the prayers coming!

Are you intrigued by the title of this post? Well I have been doing some traveling for work, conducting mentor training sessions across the state and as the Solara and I moved from county to county I realized that I had stretched the full width of the state twice in two trips. I had beautiful weather for almost all of the drives and got to see God's creation speak his majesty. Fall is a beautiful time here in Alabama. I did have a "you have got to be kidding me moment" as I entered a small town in a county in West Alabama that will remain nameless and saw a BUFFALO on a hill next to a Llama. I blinked hard but the wild game remained! I asked the teachers at the training if this is a normal viewing for a newcomer to which they replied, "They are metal" Oh thanks hometown joke player. Way to mess with the visitor. I thought my county hopping had finally caught up with me. Here is a map of where I have been in 3 days!! Yes 3 days I have covered this much territory in Alabama.

On my way back to Auburn I stopped and stayed at Hotel Wade (with Jeremy and Amy) and got to spend some time with my favorite little man Jackson. After he gave me the BEST hug ever he walked over to the door and said, " Where's Adam" I said he's not here and he said, "is he in Auburn?" Have I mentioned this is the smartest little boy around!!?? I told Jackson I would bring Adam back on Saturday but Jackson wanted to call Adam so we did and Jackson said on the phone to him, "come see me, come see me, come see me....." and kept repeating it. Poor kid. He REALLY wanted to see his Uncle Adam. We are coming back on Saturday Jackson.

e"X"traordinary Wife

Since Amy has been busy lately, she has given me the ability to post on the blog. X is the next letter in her run through the alphabet, so I thought I would take a minute to tell you (although you probably already know) how eXtraordinary my wife is, in so many ways. As many of you know, I have been collecting the data for my dissertation the past five weeks, and I just finished!! Amy has been so wonderful throughout the entire process. I basically have been waking up, going to work and collecting data, and then coming home and breaking it down. Amy has been so supportive in her words of encouragement, cooking of her great homestyle meals, and letting me slack on my dish washing duties. She is the best wife in the whole world. She done such great work with her job at the Truman Pierce Instutiute and I know she will be great in her next job as well. She is actually on her way back from another successful conference she put on in Hale County today. She also recently developed a mentoring book as well. The past five months of marriage have been wonderful and there is no way I could have done the work on my dissertation I have done without her. I am truly blessed to have her as my wife and appreciate the opportunity she gave me to brag on her for once.

What a smart little boy!!!

We headed to Jeremy and Amy's
Saturday afternoon for some much needed play time with our favorite nephew Jackson. He is SOO much fun and SOOO very smart. Jackson loves his Uncle Adam. So much so that when I was talking to Jackson on the phone the other night he got done talking to me and said, "wanna talk to Adam". Uncle Adam and Jackson had fun playing with his trains, and playing football and riding his tricycle.


Jackson cracks us up riding this tractor across the room. Obviously it isn't meant to be ridden but he does it anyway! One of his many tricks! He is so fun! Amy let us get a sneak peak at him in his Halloween costume but we have to keep those pictures a secret. Lets just say he is a CUTIE and he knows it. I stood him in front of the mirror and I could tell he was thinking, " I am looking pretty good Mimi!!

Very Special Day

Today is a very special day to celebrate!!!

Today 23 years ago, my sweet sister-n-law Lisa was born. Lisa is such a special friend, sister and person. Lisa I pray that this year you experience the fullness that the Lord has promised for you. May you know the richness of his mercies as they are new everyday. I pray that this year you will learn how fearfully and wonderfully the Lord has made you. You are a gift to everyone you meet. Thank you for being such a wonderful friend and sister. Adam and I are blessed by you daily!!

Another very special thing to celebrate today, October 14th, is my grandparents 65th wedding anniversary. 65 years!!! Isn't that amazing!!!! Adam and I are so blessed with a heritage of faith in our parents and grandparents as well as examples of marriages built on love and respect. What an example we have to follow.


A day early but another celebration is my parents 31st anniversary tomorrow, October 15th. What an amazing celebration of marriage!!! I am so thankful for the legacy of love and family that Adam and I have. Thanks mom and dad for giving us such a great example. I love you so much! ( I know this picture is mainly Adam and I but it is a great picture of mom and dad in the back holding Jackson!!!!) I will add another picture later!!

Unexpected roadside adventures

Adam and I made it home late last night from visiting family in Hattiesburg. We had a great weekend seeing everyone and celebrating Lisa's birthday (check back tomorrow for a special birthday post). Well as is life there are often times unexpected bumps in the road (no pun intended). We were about an hour outside of Hattiesburg, cruising along when I was really fighting the urge to go to sleep. I felt horrible for my sweet husband who was just as tired as I am but one of had to stay away (the DRIVER) so I decided to fight my sleepy pangs and talk to him and keep him awake. It was about this time when he began to notice a funny noise and that the car wasn't driving quite the same. I suggested slowing down and listening closer. We were looking for an exit but didn't see one so Adam slowed down and was making his way to the side of the road when I tire blew out in a major grand way. Thankfully he was able to control the car and get it the rest of the way of the interstate. The Lord's hand was on us because if we would have been traveling at 70mph when that happened it could have been far more dangerous. Long story short. Adam put the spare on and we we drove a whopping 45 mph into Meridian about 35 miles away. Have you ever driven on a spare for that long folks? ITS LOUD! Thankfully Sears was able to get us a new tire and a mere couple hours later we are back on the road again! Are you tired yet? We were but our roadside adventures were not over. The rain met us on the two lane stretch of the highway, but this trip we were prepared with brand-new windshield wipers. I am reading my book and Adam is listening to the game when out of no-where the drivers-side windshield wiper goes nuts and gets lodged in the windshield. I am talking STUCK! I have never seen such. Did I mention we are on a two-lane road at this point, IN THE RAIN? A non-functioning windshield wiper didn't make it easy for us to SEE a place to pull over but we finally found somewhere and Adam got out (have I mentioned I love my husband) and pulled and pulled to get the windshield wiper dis-lodged from the windshield. Craziness. Then he reattached the blade. The question is will the windshield wipers work. ??? Depends if you consider working blades to mean when the windshield wiper flies off the side of the car. Yes folks thats what happened. When Adam got back in the car all I could do was laugh! He said why are you laughing, I said to keep from crying and because to see that windshield wiper fly off the car was kind of funny too! Adam wasn't amused. Thankfully the rain quit eventually.
We were planning to stop in Prattville and see our favorite nephew Jackson
but when our 5 hr trip turned into 8 we decided to head on back to Auburn.

Life is full of the unexpected, but we serve a God who meets us in the unexpected moments on the roadside, the tableside, the bedside and walks through those unexpected moments. Sometimes we don't know whether to laugh or to cry and some situations call for both and that is perfectly ok because we serve a God of the unexpected!

The Knights

Yesterday, October 7th, was our four month anniversary!! WOW. Time flies when you are loving married life!!! It has been so much fun!!! I really can't say enough great things about being married to my best friend! I finally (four months later) got our wedding announcement in the paper!! Click here to see the online version of it.

Sweet Corrie Beth

Yesterday, October 3, 2008 was a very special day. It was the birthday day of Corrie Elizabeth Robinson the sweet daughter of my wonderful friend Karen and her husband Brian. She is 6 lbs 12 oz. of cuteness. The Lord has graciously allowed Karen and I to be in the same city for this season of our lives, a feat that we never thought would happen again, but this has been especially wonderful as Karen has been here to celebrate first hand the first months of marriage with Adam and I and I have walked with her as she anticipated Corrie Beth's birth. Yesterday was beyond words as I sat in the hospital room next to one of my best friends and reflected back on her 40 hours of labor (yes folks and she welcomed this baby without an epidural! She is amazing!!). We are truly at an amazing place in our lives, she had just become a mother and I was thrilled to sit with her and smile at the Lord's goodness and then to hold this sweet little one and know that the Lord has such great plans for her life. I know that she is going to be loved and prayed for by two amazing parents and so many others who already thinks she is the prettiest thing we have ever seen!!!Welcome to the world Corrie Beth. Take good care of your wonderful parents!!!

R= Really, Really tired

Hello friends.. I am typing this post and feeling every bit of the title of the post! Tired. I returned last night from a conference that our office put on. It was in a great location, Columbiana, Alabama. Beautiful. Very secluded, lake view, mountain lined area. It was just gorgeous. We were joined by about 150 high students and 60+ teacher leaders. Does that make you exhausted? We had a great time exploring future trends in leadership.

Saturday before the conference, Adam and I supported the Auburn Tigers as they welcomed (and sent home with a loss) the Tennessee Vols to the Jordan-Hare Stadium. This was an especially important game in that my dad is a HUGE Vols fan. So I would call dad to rub it in when we had done something good. (not a lot of phone calls happening, but hey we won) We wanted Mom and Dad to come for the game, but it just didn't work out. Adam and I had a great time despite a few fanatical fans around us.

Another exciting milestone this week....I am published!!!! I have been writing a Mentor Guidebook: Tips and Strategies and I finally finished and got it sent to be printed. I learned a lot during the writing of this book. I was able to distribute them during the conference this weekend am hoping that the information will be useful to mentors that get their hands on the book. Here is a picture of the cover. Adam is still plugging away extremely hard on his dissertation. Keep praying for his strength and endurance in this time as he is getting tired as well.

I am eventually getting through the alphabet.. Have no fear... I am determined to make it to the Z!!

Samantha was a student in the scholarship program that I worked with. I have had the privilege of watching Sam grow and mature into a beautiful Godly woman. Her friendship is a delight and I am so proud of all she is accomplishing and becoming. Samantha I pray that your day is filled with laughter, encouragement, and the joy you offer others is returned to you ten-fold today. I pray that this year you claim the promises the Lord sings over you. May you live in his fullness, dwell in his goodness and stand on his faithfulness.

Pirates....Arrrrrrrrrrr

Well today is a significant day in the Knight household....My husband woke up very excited this morning. As a matter of fact he couldn't go to bed last night until he got ready for today. Do you know what today is? If you read my sister-n-law Amy's blog you do. It's "Talk like a Pirate Day", a celebrated holiday at the Knight house. Last night Adam couldn't go to bed until all of the "booty" was secured. He had to find his famous eye patch. And this morning Arrrrrrrrrrrrr he was strikingly handsome in it. As we were leaving he had something in his hand, to which I looked a little closer to find, a movie that he was taking to work. Any guesses.... yep. Pirates of the Caribbean. Now remember he is collecting data so he said this is for the "students" who have to wait to have something to watch and of course it fit with the theme all together now, TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!!!! Guess what he had for lunch? ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRby's That's all I've got folks.

Oh- the places we have been

And I'm back..... Yes I know its been a while friends. I know you hate excuses, but I really have been waiting to post until I had pictures uploaded to include in this post but I decided that this post could wait no longer. You need updates. So what have the Knight's been up to you ask? LOTS..... Life is busy here on the plains of Auburn. Since I last reported. We have traveled back to Hattiesburg for a visit and the Southern Miss game. We had a great visit but it was cut a little short by Hurricane Gustav. Because of the traffic heading out of New Orleans and the Coast areas Adam and I decided to take the scenic route home and cross the state of Alabama in a different direction. We had a great time navigating the Alabama map and the small towns along the way.

The next weekend the Golden Eagles came to the Plains to visit the War Eagles. And our apartment became Hotel Knight. We had 6 additional people (additional means + Adam and Amy) sleeping in the apartment. Where you ask? Every available space. It was great. The Knights and their significant others (Lisa's fiancee Patrick and Lori's boyfriend James) all came the Friday night before the game and we filled air mattresses and covered the floor with them. Saturday, Mom, Dad, Ben, Jeremy and Amy joined the party. I loved having a house full of folks. I could have kicked myself for not taking pictures of the air mattresses. Just imagine an apartment full of folks. But we had a great time, EVEN at the game.

Work has been insanely busy for both Adam and I. I have been traveling a bit doing Mentor Support Session Trainings with Teachers in Alabama. Planning these trainings and then conducting them has been fun but exhausting. I am also teaching a Speech class through the Outreach office here, so that has started up and has been a lot of fun.Adam has started collecting the data for his dissertation, so he is swamped. The Lord is meeting us in the busyness and sending us little reminders along the way. Isn't it neat when he does that. Just this morning, the verse I read on our fridge from Proverbs said, "Commit your ways to the Lord." As though the Lord was saying to us, don't forget children in all of this that is going on around you to keep me in the middle of it. It is so easy in the busyness to commit some things but not all things. What have I forgotten to commit to the Lord? What have you forgotten to commit to the Lord?

Oh the places we have been, things we have done, are doing. Its good to reflect and ponder for a bit! I will be back sooner than later this time!!

N is for next step!

Congratulations to my wonderful husband for successfully defending his dissertation proposal today!!! He really is the smartest man I know. The next step is for him to collect the data. He is looking for people with previous history of an ankle sprain. I am sure there are other qualifications and I am also sure that all of the ladies in his classes will volunteer as usual but I don't think they are coming out in droves like they used to before he had that wedding ring on his hand. Thats right later he is TAKEN!!! I am proud of you sweetheart. One step closer to Dr. Knight!!!

Today is a very special day! Two years ago my sweet little nephew Jackson came roaring into the world!! This is sweet little man just a few minutes old. Look at how long his fingers were. And the picture below that was the Wade's (my husband will probably duh me on that one)
And today we celebrate Jackson's 2nd birthday!!! He is such a big boy. Jackson is such a sweet child, so smart and loving!!! That's our nephew!! :) This is what Adam and I got Jackson for his birthday. A jackhammer , work helmet and goggles and he was hilarious playing with it. He is already a serious child when he wants to be. He concentrates really hard on things. So when he was "working" with the jackhammer he was so funny. You can tell in these pictures he had a "I'm working, don't mess with me attitude." Love it!!

There is not a font big enough for the statement above!! I love, love, love my husband. We just celebrated our 2 month anniversary on August 7th. Isn't that WONDERFUL!!! So in honor of our 2 months of wedded bliss I thought I would give you a top ten list!! * disclaimer- I could make this list extremely sappy AND extremely long, but I want to share some of the fun things we have learned about each other too that have made me love him even more*** So fun!!

5. My husband counters me talking in my sleep by talking back to me! (He is awake, I am asleep)
4. My husband will try any of the weird foods that I have to eat on my yeast free diet.
3. My husband is the smartest and hardest working man I know. In the picture below he is reading journal articles on a cruise ship. Shameful.
2. My husband has a genuine, deep faith in the Heavenly Father.
1. My husband takes great care of me and cherishes me!

Adam and I have learned a lot in the past 2 months of marriage. It has been a wonderful journey. But I think one of the greatest lessons that the Lord has taught me has been that marriage is about giving up yourself to care for the other person. Their needs are more important than your own. Adam lives that out in how he cherishes and cares for me so deeply. I try to do the same for him. I think this is what gives us a healthy balance. Putting each others needs above our own and the amazing thing is when we do that neither of us feel deprived. The Lord knows what he is doing if we just follow his plan.

A K is a strikeout- Go Cardinals!!!

Yesterday Adam and I along with 2 friends headed to Atlanta to watch the Cardinals play the Braves. Now blog friends let me say this wasn't just your everyday trip to the Braves game, for the Knight family this was a trip to see the Cardinals!!!! My husband was SOO excited!!! Adam was dressed in his Carpenter (the pitcher returning from surgery) jersey, and I in my very large Cardinals shirt. We were the all-American Cardinals fans walking into Braves land. But have no fear the Cardinals fans represent in Atlanta. I won't digress here and talk about how Adam went back and forth about which jersey and which hat to wear. I asked if I need to pack a diaper bag with a change of cardinals clothes for him. I love this man!!

We got there in time for batting practice and for Adam to snag a ball that was hit by one of his beloved Cardinals. Good job Adam! We had great seats in the third section right behind home plate. Perfect view of the field and the Atlanta skyline. Great view of stadium and skyline.

J is for Joining the family!!

I am happy to report that my wonderful sister-n-law Lisa is now an engaged woman! That means we are gaining a great brother-n-law in Patrick. Lisa caught the bouquet at our wedding and Patrick the garter. I promise it wasn't staged. We are really excited about this new time for them. Be in prayer for Lisa and Patrick as they start the planning process and the new chapter of engagement.

In other Knight news, Adam and I are doing great. We had a covered dish dinner today after church. As we headed out the door this morning with our dishes (nicely carried in our new Arthur Court serving ware) I told Adam, " We are definitely a 'old' married couple now taking food to a covered dish meal". But I love all things married!!
